Weekly Ride Series Returns

The trails are ready to ride

Tuesday evenings has traditionally been set aside for the weekly show and go rides and this year is no different. The Two for Tuesday (as in two start times)  is up and running and is very well attended.

The turnout is so big that were breaking up into several groups. That makes it that much easier to find the pace that's just right for you. Join us at the Lowell Dracut Tyngsboro State Forest.

Park at the Trotting Park Road lot in Lowell off of Varnum Ave. Start time is usually ~5:00 for the early riders with a return to the parking lot at ~5:30 to pick up the 2nd wave.

These rides are at an intermediate pace with stops to regroup. Nobody gets left behind. The rides are cross country in nature with plenty of opportunities to play on the rocks. Come on out.

Merrimack Valleys 6th and last trail day for 2008 was completed on the 19th of October. This past trail day had us working in the Tyngsboro side of the forest.

We installed a badly needed boardwalk on a piece of doubletrack that crossed an intermittent stream.

What started as a small inconvenient mud crossing 10 years ago had quickly turned into an environmental disaster as seen from the photo below.

We had a good turnout of volunteers and started by clearing out the old debris that had accumulated in the stream bed. Next we built up the foundation where the new boardwalk would sit.

The base was now well secure and armored with a solid rock footing. The pressure treated lumber was set in place and the decking planks  were nailed in place.

The final photo shows a solid and well constructed board walk that will support all users of the trail system in the forest for years to come.

This new board walk might also open the door for us down the road to allow us to gain more access to more projects out in Tyngsboro.

Thanks again for all who came out to help this year.

Our relationship with our new contacts at the DCR continues to move forward. They have become more confident with us and may be willing to approve bigger and more productive projects. Hopefully we'll see the fruits of that relationship pay off in the new year to come.

Meanwhile we will continue to stay ahead of any issues involving our access to the local trail system. The bottom line is to keep the trails safe, clean, open and user friendly with a heavy dose of the fun factor.
